Chatty Kathy

Molly has learned the good ol' "how big is..." game and as long as she's in the mood to play, she likes to throw her hands over head when you ask how big she is. She's also a pretty decent waver although about half the time she waves at herself.

There's also an unbelievable amount of chatting happening around here. In addition to some yelling, some ET-like noises, and the previously mentioned shrieking, her newest favorite sound is "blah blah blah blah". It's pretty funny and I think she may be making fun of us...

Girls Just Wanna Have Lunch

I'm not sure how everyone else feels about messy eating pictures but I know that I'm not the #1 fan of them. That being said, I've had some requests to see Molly enjoying her food. She does enjoy a good meal and is a pretty enthusiastic eater. When she and I are having lunch together, she prefers to feed herself and we get a little messy.

Therefore, we often end up here...

Molly has also learned to appreciate presents that were given to her earlier in her young life. One of her recent favorites is her lamby from Auntie Holly. In addition to what some may call a curiously similar ring to their names, they also share an affinity for sheep.

Ahoy Matey!

Yesterday proved to be perfect canoing weather and we took the little pirate out on an excursion upriver from our house. Molly was a good little boater and fared well out on the river. She spent most of the actual paddling time snoozing (family resemblance?) but enjoyed the warm river water and took a little dip. She attempted to carve out a bigger river channel by ingesting lots of sand but hopefully we kept most of it on land or in the water rather than in her eyes or mouth.

Sitting Pretty

I'm not uploading any current pictures because some poison ivy and I got into a fight and I lost and Molly has a rash so neither of us is looking particularly pretty right now. Luckily, our friend Aaron sent us some pictures from our trip to Block Island a couple of weeks ago so I've got some new material.

Here's the family -- I think Molly is giving the "We're #1" sign. She's got some other tricks up her sleeve these days. She likes to play peek-a-boo and "How big is Molly". Her laugh and smile are still infectious and she could flirt her way out of a paper bag. Best of all, she doesn't laugh at her mom's lumpy, bumpy, poison-ivied face.

Happy Pappy Day

Even though Father's Day is a little gray and rainy, it doesn't diminish our celebration of the great fathers and grandfathers that we enjoy in this household. Thanks to all of you for being great dads.

We had planned on going canoing today but the weather didn't cooperate enough to actually get on the water. Molly took a dry run, though, and all seems well.

We decided to do a little tree trimming in an attempt to mitigate the blanket of tree sap and accompanying pollen in our front yard. John got after the tree but Molly was a little nervous with him all the way up there.

Despite our change in plans, Molly was tuckered out this afternoon. She still wanted to make sure to tell her dad something.

Missing in Action

Where's Molly (Not where I left her...)?

There she is...

And there...

Rub a Dub Dub, Thanks for the Chub

Tuesday will be day four of the heat wave and it's been pretty steamy here. Molly found a few ways to cool down over the weekend -- blowing bubbles in the shade, sitting in her wading pool in the backyard, and heading to the beach.

Still working on the eating. Apparently all the energy is going towards that rather than growing hair.

Feed Me

Molly decided it was time to try some big kid food. She looked so longingly at people when they were eating that we couldn't deny her the fun any longer. She has happily gobbled up bananas and oatmeal but had an initially chillier reaction to avocados. She has since reconsidered and enjoyed sharing my avocado at lunch today. We'll see what she thinks of sweet potatoes next.

Feeding her is definitely easier (and neater) but not nearly as fun for her. She is amenable to letting others do the work but likes moving under her own steam a little bit better.

gone.

Crabby Cakes

John went on a trip to DC for the past few days and brought Molly back her first "business trip present". I think she likes her Maryland crab -- maybe she was anticipating her present because last night she was not interested in going to bed and was a little crabby herself.

Oh, The Sounds We Can Make

Molly has thankfully decided to add to her repertoire of sounds. Instead of only shrieking, she has also learned (I really don't know from where) to blow raspberries. While strangers think the shrieking is "cute", a full day of the sound can get a little old. I, for one, am happy for the new sound, not to mention it's pretty funny to see.

She also likes using her sippy cup and sitting with the big kids in her high chair. Since she's not the littlest munchkin on the block anymore she figures she'd better get going on some of these skills to run with the cool kids.
